Asking for Opportinuties

Asking for things is underrated. People often like to assume that others automatically know what they want, but the truth is most of the time that isn’t the case. One of the key concepts of communication is asking for what you want. If you find yourself setting expectations for someone and expecting them to do what you want without asking them for it, then what you’re really doing is setting yourself up for disappointment.

In my life, asking for help, and building relationships with those who are in a position of power has created a lot of opportunities for me. Thanks to the questions I’ve asked, I now find myself with several different options for my future. People who don’t know me assume that my extroverted personality comes easily to me, but the truth is sometimes asking questions is a task I find daunting, but I push past my anxiety and I do it anyway. Sometimes, I ask people questions I already know the answer to in order to make them feel better, smarter, or simply just to help me start a conversation with them.

Questions are how people get to know one another. Asking questions is the first step to building any type of relationship and if you don’t have questions to ask you’ll never have a reason to communicate with anybody.
