My journey with the Bible

As a teenager I was part of a Baptist youth group and I had a fairly literal view of the Bible. In Baptist Theological College I was really challenged with the critical study of the Bible and it left me with doubts about the truth of the Bible and my own faith. I felt that if I had expressed my real feeling about this experience to my fellow students and the lecturers I would have been expelled from my course. One night in the College library as I was preparing an essay I sopped to give myself a break and wandered through the shelves and came across a book about theological education and it stated that one of the its aims is to shake the foundations of belief and faith of students in order to travel from a simplistic faith to a mature faith which allows the inclusion of both doubt and uncertainty. I was encouraged by this writing and proceeded with my studies. Since that moment of illumination I have not only changed my mind about issues of faith and belief but I have come to realize my Christian faith allows me to accept other faiths which differ from mine and acknowledge shared and different views of the path to God. It also allows me to accept paradox in not only in my own journey of faith and life giving me the freedom to change my mind in my faith journey
