Food makes little sense very little sense to me. It’s a commodity that I rarely understand past the basics.
Here’s what I know: I know food is necessary for survival, I know that food contains calories and different types of vitamins and nutrients, I know that the food I eat tastes good, because if it didn’t I wouldn’t eat it, I know that some foods are better than others in regards to health, and I know that fast food is bad for you because it’s processed, or so I’m told. Past these few simple increments of knowledge, my knowledge about food is scarce.
As someone who cares a very great deal about their physical appearance and works out daily, trying to eat correctly is an idea I am fond of. Unfortunately, eating correctly (healthy) is quite a challenge when you don’t understand anything about food. The only healthy foods I know are fruits and vegetables, which aren’t much of a meal. In an attempt to slightly improve the quality of the food I ingest, I’ve stopped eating fast food and have begun attempting to track my calories. This has helped a bit, but not much.
Honestly, I don’t know whether or not I’m healthy. I can recognize that my eating habits are not the best but I don’t know anybody in my life who truly eats healthy. I have a nice body, which people just assume means I’m healthy. My relationship with food simply exists. It’s not positive or negative, it just simply exists. In the past, my family’s made remarks about the quantity of food I eat, urging me to eat more, but I just eat until I’m full. (Which does not take a lot of food.)
I’d like to improve my relationship with food, but at present, I’m satisfied with counting my calories and eating what I want within my desired calorie intake. (With the exclusion of fast food.) Otherwise, my journey to eating healthy is a wish I leave for my future self to embark on.
