Lent Day 39: Treat people like horses

I've learned to trust people to follow through on their commitments. I used to think that nobody can do anything better than me and as a result, I became over extended. My role in life when I was younger was one of a technician or technocrat. I'm the curious type and have learned a little about a lot of things.

Even at my age, there are still people who like to put their fingers in all the pies. They still must have something to prove to themselves and others about their smarts and abilities.

I'm okay with managing them since I'm not as hands-on as I used to be.

Take Jesus. The Lenten lesson today is about Judas bringing the bad guys to take Jesus away. He expected the visit because he entrusted his fate to the information he inherently knew based on his conversations with God, his father. He was okay with the outcome and didn't do anything to change the result. His disciples, on the other hand weren't so accommodating. Judas killed himself and Peter denied knowing Jesus to save his butt.

My HOA decided to install a new stove and I was shepherding the installation of the countertop. The contractor donated his time and I suggested that we get him a gift card as a "thank you" for his trouble. My idea was for my neighbors to chip in a few bucks for the cause. One of the control freak neighbors piped up with an entirely different idea to have the HOA dues pay for the gratuity.

Since he always likes to be in charge, I happily handed the project over to him, one more job I didn't have to worry about and I knew he was more than capable of handling the chore mostly because it was an opportunity for him to show off to the neighbors.

There are many paths to arrive at the same outcome. My trade secret to getting out of work is to treat people like horses and make outcomes their idea.
