One thing I've learned is that self-prepared food is better if I use a recipe. I used to be a "one-pot" meal chef - throw a bunch of stuff in a pan to minimize dirty dishes. My go-to dishes were chili, spaghetti sauce, soups, stews.
They were okay, but not as good as when I discovered recipes. Ironically, Brownie Stew was the first dish I was allowed to prepare on the stove from a recipe in my sister's Brownie Scout handbook. Brown hamburger, add two cans of Campbell's vegetable soup.
If I follow recipes, the outcomes are much better. The Lenten lesson is about Jesus describing a prescription to a group of Jews and how if they followed what he said, their personal outcomes would be better.
I wonder if Jesus was a very good cook?
