I don’t know much about my family history, the subject is actually my brother's cup of tea. He spent a lot of time this summer researching the roots of my mother’s family and found out that my mother even had some family here in the states. Thanks to his research we learned that some of my mothers family had relocated to the states nearly half a century ago, and even owned some property on the eastern side of the United States, sadly, it seems the property has since lost, but the knowledge it existed is pleasant to hear.
I don’t share my brothers interest in regards to familial history, my interest regarding family history is located more in each individual person. I want to know and understand the family members who’s names I know. Knowing their name alone isn’t enough for me, it’s the story I’m after… and unfortunately learning about somebody who lived a hundred years ago who wasn’t famous or didn’t keep a diary is basically impossible. I think this is why I’m most interested in my family members who are living now or have been deceased recently; at least with those recently deceased there’s still a chance to capture their story before it’s completely lost to time.
